My name is Ela Pinar and I am a 17 year old who has a passion for poetry. I write poetry for myself, well that’s what it was to begin with. I still remember writing my first poem at age 12, it had that connection with music that I really felt. Later, I started to share my poems with others and there is no better feeling than seeing how much my poetry spoke to them. After that i knew, I had to share what I have with the world. So I found a new purpose to my poetry, as poetry isn’t just for the people who write it, but the people that need it. I’ve witnessed and been told many stories on the journey of struggle and love, and writing poetry for them, seeing their face really warmed my heart. I hope people can relate and see someone understands, to have put their unspeakable thoughts into words. Sometimes our thoughts are the scariest, most confusing places, so when I can finally put down exactly what others have been feeling, it’s truly amazing. Sometimes I feel it’s my only way out of reality, everything comes off my chest and onto the paper and STAYS on the paper. I hope you enjoy my journey as a poet, stay tuned. This is just the beginning.
About Year of Poetry program: Over the course of 2018, a select group of young writers was invited to take part in an inaugural poetry writing program at the Story Factory. Their goal was to produce not just a a story, or a script, but a fully realised chapbook. This is one of the final collections produced in these workshops.
