i baked you something special with materials from earth;
where the sweet and sour tastes of love
—the desire, yearning, surviving, and the healing—
flow through into our world
and into our cakes
so here i tell you
this is a love letter
filled with my open bleeding heart
in hopes you will come to resonate
with the way my cake is baked.

Over the course of 2022, a select group of young writers was invited to take part in a year-long writing program at Story Factory. Their goal was to produce a collection of poetry. This is one of the collections produced in these workshops.
