A Journal Celebrating the Work of Early Career Creators.
Platform is a collection of incredibly exciting firsts. It grew out of the Parramatta Creative Circle, the first Story Factory project for people over 18 years of age. It was also our first salon-style series of events, run every six weeks on Friday evenings at our Parramatta centre. At each event, we invited a guest artist from a wide range of creative fields: poets, filmmakers and screenwriters, visual artists and authors. The rich discussions that occurred at the Creative Circle meetings became the inspiration for the varied and exciting writing which we have collected here. In this first edition, Platform 1, there’s writing inspired by the following guest artists: STYNA, Eileen Chong, Mawunyo Gbogbo, Marcus Khoudair, Zeadala, Bilal Hafda, Kevin Ngo and Rico Craig.
Platform Issue 1 has been broken into sections: A Kinder Self, Music, Water, Fascination, Symbols and Generations. Each section reveals a key idea shared by the guest artist, which our early career creators then took as a provocation for their own pieces of writing. Their work shows a richness of imagination and a willingness to explore challenging ideas. It also shares experience and begins creating, cultivating, and carving its own space in the artistic community.
