Jack is a young man on a journey to find an enchanted life. The lengths he goes to find this are unimaginable. Antara-Jane catches a case of emotion. Dusana finds herself stuck in another world. Eeli is a woman accomplishing the impossible. A story of love across time. The women have been snatched from their niche vicinities. And so it goes, the tale of a mystery man on a journey to find elation. How will they survive? Are these journeys connected? Will Jack ever find out if this danger makes sense?

Jaz is a 16-year-old author who writes fictional mystery, thriller, and comedic stories. As a young rock musician, she spends her time playing guitar, drums and sometimes the ukulele. As a lover of movies, she believes storytelling is the oldest form of gratification to seduce a human’s mind, and hopes to incorporate this into her own writing. Other than writing amazing stories and poetry, she enjoys re-bingeing shows for the 20th time and mothering her two snag dogs, Ebony and Sonny.

Over the course of 2023, a select group of young writers was invited to take part in a year-long writing program at Story Factory. Their goal was to produce a fully realised novella. This is one of the novellas produced in these workshops.

Year of the Novella 2023 was supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.

This project was also made possible thanks to the support of a group of generous donors:

Rosebrook Foundation

Shand Foundation

Caroline Beecham & John Lydon

Greg Dean

Bernadette Brennan & Justin Gleeson

Deena Shiff & James Gillespie

Kim E Anderson

This publication would not have been possible without the unstinting support of the editorial and production teams at Penguin Random House. Thanks also to our all-round fantastic Story Factory volunteers. Finally, massive thanks to our typesetters, Midland Typesetters and Post Pre-press, and our printer, Griffin Press.
